How I work with you
  • I review your rental contract and tell you what cover it requires
  • I adjust contents and civil liability to what you actually have
  • My advice never costs you more

What it is and why you need it.

It's the insurance built for you if you live in rented accommodation. Unlike the landlord's insurance — which protects the property — yours protects what's yours and what you're responsible for: your belongings against fire, water damage, theft or breakages, and your civil liability as a tenant — damage you might cause to the landlord's property or to third parties.

It's simpler and cheaper than a landlord's policy, because you're not insuring the building, only what's actually yours to insure.

How I work: we look at what you have and what your rental contract requires, and adjust the contents sum insured and the civil liability cover so you're covered without paying more than you should.

What's covered

Main coverage.

Tenant's civil liability

The most important cover: it answers for you if you cause damage to the landlord's property or to third parties, such as a leak that damages the flat below.

Your contents: furniture and belongings

Furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes and belongings against fire, water damage, theft and breakages.

24-hour assistance

Emergency locksmith if you're locked out, plus emergency plumbing, electrical and glazing work.

Theft away from home (optional)

We can add cover for robbery outside the property if you're interested.

Do I need insurance if I rent my home?.

By law, it's not compulsory. But your contract may well require it: many rental contracts include a clause requiring at least civil liability cover. And even if it isn't required, it's worth having: if you cause damage, you pay out of pocket, and if a claim damages your furniture, without insurance you simply lose it.

My advice: review your contract with me; I'll tell you exactly what cover you need — no more, no less — to meet it and feel at ease.

Who insures what when you rent?.

The landlord insures the building: the property, the walls, the fixed installations. You, as the tenant, insure the contents — your furniture and belongings — and your civil liability. That way, each of you covers your own part and you don't pay for what isn't yours to cover.

If instead you're the one renting out a property you own, Rental Home (Landlord) is the right product for you.

The questions I get asked most. If yours isn't here, write to me and I'll answer personally.

What does home insurance for tenants cover? +
It covers your contents — furniture, appliances, electronics and belongings — against fire, water damage, theft or breakages, plus your civil liability as a tenant. It usually also includes 24-hour assistance.
Do I need insurance if I rent my home? +
Not by law, but many rental contracts require at least civil liability cover. It's also highly recommended: if you cause damage, you're liable, and without insurance you'd also lose your furniture in a claim.
What's the difference between what I insure and what the landlord insures? +
The landlord insures the building (the property and fixed installations). You, as the tenant, insure the contents and your civil liability. Each of you covers your own part.
Does it cover a leak I cause that damages the flat below? +
Yes, through the tenant's civil liability cover, which answers for damage you cause to third parties or to the landlord's property.
Does it cover theft of my belongings? +
Yes, theft of your contents inside the property is covered. If you'd like, we can also add cover for robbery away from home.
Is it expensive? +
No. Since you're not insuring the building — that's the landlord's responsibility — it's a simple, affordable policy. The price depends on the value of your contents and the civil liability cover you choose.
Can I take my insurance with me if I move to another rental? +
Yes. Since it protects your contents and your liability, the policy adapts to your new home when you move. Just let me know so I can update the details.
