Pet Insurance

Don't let an accident with your dog or cat turn into a financial problem

Liability cover is the star of this policy: if your pet causes harm to another person, animal or property, you are legally liable with your own assets. I also cover accidents, theft and loss of your dog or cat, with phone vet guidance included.

What's covered

Protection for your pet, and for you.

Designed for dogs and cats. Here's what your pet insurance includes.

Liability cover

Damage your pet causes to third parties — people, animals or property — with legal defence and bail bonds included.

Accidental injury to your pet

Vet costs for being hit by a vehicle, fights, falls or swallowing foreign objects, with the assistance needed.

Theft

Compensation for your pet’s value if it is stolen.

Loss

Adverts to help find your pet and boarding if it turns up but can’t be collected right away.

Boarding cover

If you have to be away for a covered reason (for example, hospitalisation), we cover boarding costs.

Phone assistance

Vet guidance over the phone whenever you need it.

Cover for dogs and cats (hunting or sporting animals are excluded unless expressly agreed). Being up to date with vaccinations is a requirement. Full details on sums insured and conditions are in the General Conditions, which I explain before you take out the policy.

So there are no surprises

What's not covered.

This policy covers accidents, not illness. Here are the most relevant exclusions; I'll explain the rest calmly.

Common illnessesInfectious, parasitic or any other kind of illness: the policy covers accidents, not illness.

Poisoning and intoxicationNot included under accidental injury cover.

Age-related conditionsWear and tear or ailments typical of old age.

Cosmetic surgeryEar or tail shaping and other purely cosmetic procedures.

Accidental injury cover starts 15 days after taking out the policy (liability cover has no such waiting period). From age 10, your pet's insured value reduces by 20% a year. The full list of exclusions is in the General Conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Before you write to me.

The questions I get asked most. If yours isn't here, write to me and I'll answer personally.

Does it cover the vet for illness?
No: it covers accidents, theft and loss, plus liability cover. Common illness is not included.
Is insurance compulsory for my dog?
Liability cover is compulsory for potentially dangerous dog breeds, and increasingly recommended — and required — for the rest.
What if my dog bites someone or breaks something?
Liability cover takes care of the compensation, including legal defence and bail bonds.
From when am I covered?
Liability cover from day one; accidental injury cover from 15 days after taking out the policy.
Does it need to be vaccinated?
Yes, being up to date with vaccinations is a requirement for cover.
What if it gets lost?
We cover adverts to help find it and boarding if it turns up but can’t be collected right away.
What happens if my pet is a breed considered potentially dangerous?
For these breeds, liability cover is compulsory by law; I’ll help you take it out correctly and meet any other legal requirements that apply.
Does the insurance cover it if my cat causes damage to a neighbour?
Yes, liability cover deals with damage your pet (dog, cat or other companion animal) causes to third parties, including legal defence and bail bonds.
What happens if my pet is over 10 years old?
From age 10, the insured value of the animal is reduced by an indicative 20% a year; liability cover keeps applying as normal.
Can I insure more than one pet on the same policy?
Each pet needs its own policy or line of cover; if you have several animals, I’ll put together whichever combination best fits your case.
What happens if my pet is involved in a road traffic accident?
It’s covered under the accidental injury to the animal cover, which includes the veterinary costs needed as a result of this type of claim.
Does it cover it if my pet is stolen?
Yes, the theft cover pays out the value of the animal in the event of theft, under the conditions taken out.
Which animals are excluded from the insurance?
The product is designed for companion and guard animals; hunting or sporting animals are excluded unless there’s an express agreement in the particular conditions.
Do I need the microchip or an up-to-date vet record to take it out?
Being up to date with vaccinations is an essential condition of the policy; I’ll confirm exactly what documentation is worth having to hand when you take it out.
What happens if my pet causes damage while being walked by someone else?
Liability cover deals with damage caused by your pet regardless of who was walking it at the time, except for cases excluded under the policy wording.
Does it cover legal defence if I’m reported for damage caused by my pet?
Yes, the liability cover includes legal defence and bail bonds against a claim arising from damage caused by your animal.
What happens if my pet suddenly falls ill, not from an accident?
Common illness, whether infectious, parasitic or of any other kind, is outside this policy: it covers accidents, theft and loss, plus liability cover.
Is there an age limit to start insuring my pet?
There may be a minimum or maximum age to take out cover depending on particular conditions; I’ll confirm the current range for your case.
What happens if I need boarding for my pet while I’m in hospital?
The policy includes a stay in boarding if the carer is away for a covered reason, such as hospitalisation, so your pet is looked after in the meantime.
Can I take it out if my pet isn’t neutered?
Neutering isn’t usually a requirement to take it out; what matters is being up to date with vaccinations. I’ll confirm if there’s any particular condition depending on the breed or the current policy wording.
